By the end of Middle East, 1918–1979: States, Palestine & Resources you should be able to:
- I can explain mandates and local politics.
- I can explain a historical connection using relevant evidence and qualify the conclusion.
4 questions, written answer, each with a worked explanation.
Vocabulary used: context, evidence, interpretation, mandate administration, Nakba.
Problem 1
Answer and explanation
Identify the territory, date, decision maker, and local movements. Do not infer consent from international approval. Arab communities, Jewish communities, and other populations contained internal differences; a regional label cannot supply one shared political aim.
Problem 2
Answer and explanation
Distinguish a proposal from events and outcomes. Palestinian displacement is documented; particular local mechanisms need specific evidence. Recognize Jewish histories and Palestinian histories without making one erase the other or treating all people as responsible for every armed group.
Problem 3
Answer and explanation
State the date, territory, parties, and issue being addressed. A bilateral treaty can change one relationship while other questions remain. This historical sequence does not establish the status of every issue in the present.
Problem 4
Answer and explanation
Connect resources to institutions and particular decisions. Religious identity does not establish one political program, and oil wealth does not prove equal distribution. Compare named actors and dated evidence instead of explaining the entire region through a single stereotype.
