Inequality — Grade 7 Accelerated, what it means and where it is taught
A statement that one expression is less than or greater than another.
Taught in Grade 7 Accelerated.
Where it is taught
What uses it later
This idea is needed for:
- Solution set — All the values that make the inequality true — usually infinitely many.
- Boundary line — The line you would get by replacing the inequality sign with =.

3 questions in the course bank use Inequality, in Solving Inequalities, Linear Inequalities, Systems of Equations & Inequalities.
Problem 1
Solve -4x + 3 ≥ 19. Enter your answer like x<=-4.
Worked answer
x<=-4
-4x ≥ 16
Divide by -4 and flip: x ≤ -4
Check x = -5: 20 + 3 = 23 ≥ 19 ✓
Problem 2
A student has scores 78, 85 and 91. What must the fourth score be to average at least 85?
Worked answer
86
78 + 85 + 91 + s4 ≥ 85
254 + s ≥ 340
s ≥ 86
Problem 3
For y > 2x + 1, is the boundary line solid or dashed?
Worked answer
dashed
> does not include equality
So the line is dashed
